Fishing in and around Quillan is excellent, as is the fishing throughout the Languedoc. The River Aude is a category 1 trout fishing river, teeming with Mediterranean brown trout, and there are other fish in the Aude as well as several other small rivers and lots of streams nearby. There are some excellent lakes too not too far away.
You need a fishing permit (the Carte de Pêche Vacances) to fish in Languedoc. It is now possible to buy the permit online at en.cartedepeche.fr (site is in English, French, German and Spanish) and find out more about the various types of permits there. You can also buy daily or weekly fishing permits from our local fishing shop. The shop is very handy – it’s just a few steps across the old square and Monique who runs it speaks fairly good English. Her husband René is the president of the local Quillan fishing club l’Amicale des Pescofis. You can stock up on fresh bait, line, etc. and get good advice on the best spots on the Aude to fish.
